Type Under Construction

My installation consists an open-ended playful system that allows the construction of letters and archiving type designs made by participants and a Type Construction Font specimen. The modular shapes are derived from a grass concrete paver with circular cutouts. A simple geometric shape changed to a modular type module, that allows for countless of possibilities and variations.

As a child I liked to figure out how things function and work. I loved to play around and get my hands dirty, by constructing, deconstructing, reassembling and arranging. With my project I want to invite the viewer to puzzle with type construction through modular pieces. Such systems follow certain principles of restrictions, while also creating room to playfully explore and experiment.
